Most of our first day in Namibia was spent on picking up our rental truck and grocery shopping. Then we had about 275 kilometers and three hours to drive to our first lodge.
Once we finally get on the B1 heading south from Windhoek, it’s about 3 pm. The sun is shining and we’re feeling excited about the trip ahead of us. The landscape is mostly scrubby half-desert with farms here and there. We stop at a Tropic of Capricorn sign for photos.
The earth starts to get redder and redder as we head in to the Kalahari. Giant red termite castles dot the landscape. When we finally turn off the B1 on the road to our lodge, the sun is just setting and an enormous golden moon is peaking out over the horizon. I was actually so shocked when I first saw it that I said ‘What is that?!” to Greg before I realized it was the moon.
Tonight we stayed at the Kalahari Anib Lodge which had comfortable rooms and good buffet meals.
