Philly has some of the best public art.
Check out “Sea Monsters HERE” before it disappears after November 16 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The piece, by Filthy Lurker and Pedro Estrellas, is curated by The Philly Navy Yard and GroupX, a local anonymous collection of artists and curators. If you’re driving, pass through the Navy Yard gates heading south on Broad Street, continue straight to Flagship Ave and make a left. You’ll see it. If using public transit, take the Broad Street Line to the sports complexes (Now NRG Station). Then locomote over to the Navy Yard and follow the above driving directions. This is an awesome Halloween season activity.
If you miss the sea monster but are still looking for free art in Philly, check out the Association for Public Art website for other exhibitions, installations and tours. They commission all sorts of projects like last year’s Winter Fountains on the Parkway, and Cai Guo-Qiang’s Fireflies.
Enjoy!
